LIT (Leader-in-Training): Teva Mitzvot: For youth entering the 10th grade

B’nai B’rith Camp is proud to announce an unprecedented addition to enhance teen programming at B.B. Camp. L.I.T. : Teva Mitzvot is the first step in our two-part Leaders-in-Training Program. L.I.T. gives the opportunity for our tenth graders to actively be a part of all camp activities, including cabin chugim (i.e. swimming, hydro-tubing, canoeing, sailing, water-skiing, athletics, nature, arts & crafts, ropes course, Jewish enrichment, etc.) skill builders, individuals, evening programs, and camp trips. A portion of the L.I.T. camp experience will be dedicated to Tikkun Olam, repairing the world, as well as building leadership skills in order to prepare the L.I.T. for the second, more challenging L.I.A (Leader in Action) course (which will take place the following summer).

The L.I.T. Program provides an exceptional adventure for our campers to become more independent, challenge themselves, and acquire leadership skills, while learning middot (Jewish values) and performing mitzvot (good deeds), with an environmental focus. Highlights of this program will be a Shabbat in the desert, hiking adventures, exploration of the Oregon Coast, and a climbing adventure at Smith Rock.

Throughout the camp session, campers will have the opportunity to use their leadership and tikkun olam skills, as they lead an evening program, assist counselors in teaching skill builders, help with an occasional younger unit program, and much more. Additionally, the L.I.T. campers will be empowered to choose tikkun olam projects in which they want to make a difference at Camp and/or in the local community. The campers will then implement those projects during a series of cabin chugim

LIA (Leadership in Action) Leadership and Counseling Program: For youth entering 11th grade

L.I.A.: Leadership in Action Program is the second step in our two-part Leaders-in-Training Program. L.I.A. gives the opportunity for our eleventh graders to participate in a hands-on approach to learning the basics of the many lessons of leadership and camp counseling. Through experienced-based activities, educational workshops, and group-oriented discussions we will provide each L.I.A. with skills paramount in the growth of a leader not only in a camp environment, but also in the general community.

Some of the topics that will be covered in the comprehensive L.I.A. program are goal setting, conflict resolution, stress management, communication and listening, behavior management, problem solving techniques, group dynamics, and child development. In addition, the L.I.A.’s will create and implement an evening program, as well as spend time shadowing counselors and staff.

Along with the wide-ranging activities, workshops, and discussions, we will be taking several day trips along the Oregon coast, and an overnight adventure including an overnight to the University of Oregon and a white water rafting trip.

Each L.I.A. will have individual evaluatory meetings on two separate occasions throughout the session. At the conclusion of the session, the L.I.A. Director will complete a written evaluation of the L.I.A.’s performance. This evaluation will be put on file to be used for future consideration in employment as a B’nai B’rith Camp staff member.

The L.I.A. program lends significantly to the positive impact on the future of B’nai B’rith Camp. L.I.A.s will have the opportunity to share and implement what they have learned from the training to B’nai B’rith Camp for years to come. Thus, it is very important that the L.I.A.s make the most of their experiences.

L.I.A.: Leadership in Action Program is designed to build self-esteem, leadership and camp counseling skills, as well as a sense of accomplishment. This program will prove to be an amazing and memorable experience, in which skills are learned, and life-long friendships are made.
